Overcoming Procastination

May 15, 2009

What is stopping us from attaining the level of success that we want to acheive? One of my clients referred me to an excellent article on this topic written by Jim Sirbasku from Profiles International. Especially given that today would be a perfect day to do anything but work, I thought that I would write about this article.

In this article, Jim Sirbasku sites an example of how we act on the last day before we start vacation.  On our last day of work prior to vacation, we might prepare a list of the items that we want to complete  and then next morning you arrive early, skip that extra coffee, keep conversations with colleagues short and focus on getting everything done. He then analyzes this in more detail and recommends you act like this everday. Essentially, upon examination, you have created a vision, developed a plan and then committed to completing the task. This is excellent advise but how do we continue to have that enthusiasm on an on-going basis?

Personally, I believe that this is an ongoing process. We need to reflect on what has worked, what could be improved and then adjust our plan or create a new plan. In some cases, we may need to review our vision. What could you do to make your vision more motivational?
